Negotiation prep partner GPT that builds your plan, walk-away point and concession ladder

A custom GPT for anyone heading into a commercial negotiation (vendor contract, enterprise deal, renewal, salary): it interviews you, then produces a one-page plan with interests, BATNA, target and walk-away, a concession ladder and likely counter-moves.

What it does

Most negotiation mistakes happen before the meeting: no walk-away point, concessions given away in the wrong order, or no idea what the other side actually needs. This GPT runs a structured prep interview and turns your answers into a plan you can bring into the room.

**What it does**

1. Interviews you in short rounds: the deal, both sides' interests, your alternatives if this falls through, constraints, relationship importance, and deadlines. 2. Separates **positions** (what people say they want) from **interests** (why they want it), for both sides. 3. Helps you set three numbers or terms: opening ask, target, and walk-away, and checks they are consistent with your alternative. 4. Builds a **concession ladder**: what you can trade, what it costs you, what it is worth to them, and what you ask for in return each time. 5. Lists likely moves from the other side and a prepared response to each. 6. Optionally runs a short practice round where it plays the counterpart.

**When to use it**

- Vendor and SaaS renewals, procurement negotiations, partnership terms - Enterprise sales deals at the negotiation stage - Job offer and salary discussions

**What it will not do**

- It does not give legal advice on contract clauses. It will point out which terms usually need legal review. - It does not invent market rates, salary data or competitor prices. If you need benchmarks, it tells you what to look up and where that kind of data usually comes from, and leaves the number for you. - It will not help with deceptive tactics such as bluffing about offers you do not have.

**Example output section**

| Concession | Cost to us | Value to them | Ask in return | |---|---|---|---| | 24-month term instead of 12 | Low | High (budget certainty) | 8% lower annual price | | Net-60 payment | Medium (cash flow) | Medium | Remove auto-renewal uplift |

The plan ends with a short "if they say X, I say Y" sheet you can keep open during the call.

How to use it

**Set up as a ChatGPT custom GPT** (requires a ChatGPT plan that lets you create GPTs).

1. In ChatGPT, open the GPTs area from the sidebar (Explore GPTs) and choose **Create**. 2. Switch to the **Configure** tab instead of using the chat-based builder. 3. Set **Name** to `Negotiation Prep` and write a one-line **Description**. 4. Open `assistants/negotiation-prep-partner/instructions.md`, copy everything, and paste it into the **Instructions** field. The file is written to fit inside the field's character limit. 5. Add **Conversation starters**: `Help me prepare for a vendor renewal negotiation`, `I have a job offer and want to negotiate`, `Build a concession ladder for this deal:`, `Play the other side so I can practice`. 6. Under **Capabilities**: web search can stay off; the GPT works from what you tell it. If you turn it on, it should only be used when you ask it to find public information, and you should check sources yourself. 7. Test it in the preview pane on the right with a real example, then save and choose who can access it (only you, anyone with the link, or your workspace, depending on your plan).
