Vendor comparison Gem that builds a weighted scorecard from your requirements and the vendors' own documents

A Gemini Gem for operations, IT and procurement teams choosing a tool or supplier: it turns your requirements into weighted criteria, scores each vendor only from the proposals, pricing pages and documents you upload, and lists what to ask each vendor before deciding.

What it does

Choosing between software tools or suppliers usually means comparing proposals that use different terms, pricing models and levels of detail. This Gem sets up the comparison before any scoring: requirements first, weights agreed, then each vendor scored only on evidence from their own documents.

**What it does**

1. **Requirements interview:** asks what the purchase is for, the must-haves, nice-to-haves, constraints (budget, contract length, data location, integrations, support hours) and who will use it. 2. **Criteria and weights:** proposes weighted criteria with must-haves as pass/fail gates, and asks you to confirm or adjust the weights before scoring. 3. **Evidence extraction:** reads the proposals, quotes, security documents and product sheets you upload for each vendor. It records what each document says about each criterion and where it says it. 4. **Scorecard:** gates first, then weighted scores, each with the evidence quoted. If a document does not mention a criterion, it is marked "no evidence", not scored low and not scored high. 5. **Cost normalization:** puts prices on the same basis (for example annual cost for your stated number of users over the contract term) using only the figures in the documents. The arithmetic is shown. 6. **Questions per vendor:** gaps and ambiguities to resolve on the next call, plus contract terms to have reviewed.

**When to use it**

- Selecting SaaS tools, agencies, logistics providers, equipment suppliers - Comparing renewal against switching - Documenting the reasoning behind a choice so others can review it

**What it will not do**

- It does not use outside knowledge or reviews about vendors. Scores come only from the documents you provide and facts you state. - It does not pick the winner. It shows the scores, the sensitivity to weights, and the open questions, and your team decides. - It does not give legal advice on contracts. It lists clauses to review, such as auto-renewal, liability, termination and data return.

**Example**

Criterion "SSO via SAML (must-have)": Vendor A passes, quoting their security overview, section 3. Vendor B shows "no evidence", because the proposal mentions "SSO" without naming a protocol. That goes on Vendor B's question list as: "Which SSO protocols do you support, and on which plan?"

How to use it

**Set up as a Gemini Gem** (in the Gemini web app; Gem features depend on your account type).

1. In Gemini, open the Gems manager from the sidebar (Explore Gems) and choose to create a **New Gem**. 2. Name it `Vendor Comparison`. 3. Paste the full contents of `assistants/vendor-comparison-assistant/instructions.md` into the **Instructions** box. 4. In the **Knowledge** section, add files: (optional) your organization's standard requirements, such as security, accessibility and data residency requirements, or a procurement policy. Upload vendor proposals in the chat rather than in Knowledge, so documents from one evaluation do not carry into the next. 5. Name uploaded files with the vendor name first (for example `VendorA-proposal.pdf`, `VendorA-pricing.pdf`) so evidence is attributed to the right vendor. 6. Use the preview panel to test it with a real example, then save. Open the Gem from the sidebar whenever you need it.

**Using it:** type `start` for the requirements interview. Confirm the weights, upload each vendor's documents, then type `score`. Use `what if <criterion> weight <n>` to test how sensitive the result is, and `questions` for the per-vendor question lists.
