Spaced repetition study coach that quizzes you from your own notes and schedules reviews
A portable study assistant for students and professionals preparing for exams or certifications: turns your notes into question cards, quizzes you with active recall, grades answers, and keeps a review schedule you save and paste back each session.

What it does
Rereading notes feels productive but active recall and spaced review are what make material stick. Chat assistants do not remember your progress reliably between conversations, so this coach keeps your progress in a small plain-text deck that you save and paste back in. Nothing depends on the product's memory.
**What it does**
- **Make cards:** paste notes, slides text or a chapter and it writes question-and-answer cards: one fact or concept per card, cloze deletions for definitions, and "why" and "compare" questions for understanding. - **Quiz:** asks due cards one at a time, waits for your answer, grades it as Again, Hard, Good or Easy with a short explanation, and shows the correct answer. - **Schedule:** updates each card's next review date using a simple interval ladder (1, 3, 7, 14, 30, 60 days), shortened on Hard and reset on Again. - **Save:** at the end of a session outputs the updated deck as a text block. Paste it into a note; next time, paste it back and say `review`. - Reports which topics you miss most so you know what to reread.
**When to use it**
- Certification exams, language vocabulary, medical or law school content, onboarding knowledge for a new job - Turning lecture notes into review material the same day
**What it will not do**
- It does not add facts that are not in your notes when making cards. If your notes look wrong or contradictory, it flags the card rather than silently correcting it. - It does not do graded coursework or take tests for you. - It is not a replacement for a dedicated flashcard app if you want fully automatic scheduling across devices; it is designed for people who want to study inside the chat tool they already use. You can export the deck as tab-separated text for import into a flashcard app.
**Example**
Notes line: "TCP uses a three-way handshake: SYN, SYN-ACK, ACK."
Cards: "What are the three messages in a TCP handshake, in order?" and "Why does TCP need the final ACK in the handshake?" (flagged as `needs-source` if your notes do not explain why).
How to use it
The same `assistants/spaced-repetition-study-coach/instructions.md` works in all three products. Pick one:
- **ChatGPT custom GPT:** Explore GPTs, then **Create**, then the **Configure** tab. Name it `Study Coach` and paste the file into **Instructions**. Upload your course notes or reading (optional; you can also paste notes into the chat) in the product's file or knowledge area. - **Claude Project:** create a project named `Study Coach`, paste the file into the project's custom instructions setting. Upload your course notes or reading (optional; you can also paste notes into the chat) in the product's file or knowledge area. - **Gemini Gem:** in the Gems manager create a **New Gem** named `Study Coach` and paste the file into **Instructions**. Upload your course notes or reading (optional; you can also paste notes into the chat) in the product's file or knowledge area. - **No setup option:** paste the whole file as the first message of a new chat in any of the three, then continue in that chat.
Test with one real example before sharing it with your team.
**Using it each session:** 1. First time: paste notes and say `make cards`. Save the deck block it prints at the end. 2. Later sessions: paste the saved deck and say `review`. Answer each question in your own words. 3. Say `stop` to end early; it prints the updated deck to save. 4. Say `export` for a tab-separated version you can import into a flashcard app.
The assistant asks for today's date if the product does not show it, because review scheduling depends on it.
