How to add the AISkillHub chat to WordPress
Add Live chat or Global Room to a WordPress site with a free header and footer plugin, or with a few lines in your child theme.
Before you start, create your widget and verify your domain. The overview guide explains both. Then copy your snippet from the widget's Install tab.
Option 1: a header and footer plugin (easiest)
This works on any self-hosted WordPress site, and on WordPress.com plans that allow plugins.
- In your dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin and search for WPCode (its full name is "WPCode: Insert Headers and Footers + Custom Code Snippets").
- Install and activate it.
- Go to Code Snippets → Header & Footer.
- Paste your snippet into the Footer box.
- Choose Save Changes.
Any similar plugin works the same way: paste the snippet into the box that prints code in the footer of every page.
Verifying with the meta tag? Paste the aiskillhub-verification meta tag into the Header box of the same screen, save, then choose Verify in AISkillHub.
Option 2: your child theme
If you prefer not to add a plugin, add this to your child theme's functions.php. Editing the parent theme directly means a theme update will remove it.
add_action( 'wp_footer', function () {
echo '<script src="https://app.aiskillhub.dev/widget.js" data-widget="wgt_your_widget_key" async></script>';
} );
Replace wgt_your_widget_key with your own key.
After you add it
- Clear any caching plugin (WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache, W3 Total Cache) and your CDN.
- Some optimisation plugins delay or combine scripts. If the chat button does not appear, exclude
app.aiskillhub.dev/widget.jsfrom "delay JavaScript" and "combine JavaScript". - Open your site in a private window to check it as a visitor would.
Still stuck? See if the chat does not show up.
