Prompts

Personal learning plan builder for a new skill in limited weekly time

Builds a realistic week-by-week plan to learn a skill around your available hours: a clear end goal, milestones you can check, practice tasks, spaced review and a way to adjust when you fall behind.

Prompt in Education by AISkillHub Library

What it does

Most self-study plans fail because they are a reading list rather than a plan: no defined end point, no practice, and no allowance for real life. This prompt builds a plan around a concrete goal ("read a P&L and explain it to my team", "hold a 10-minute conversation in Spanish", "build pivot-table reports for my monthly sales review") and the hours you actually have.

**Use it when** you are learning a professional or personal skill on your own time, changing roles, or preparing for a new responsibility at work.

**What you get** - A restated goal with a concrete "you will be able to..." test at the end. - A starting-point check: a few questions to place you, or assumptions based on what you described. - Milestones every one to three weeks, each with a check you can do yourself. - A week-by-week schedule that fits your stated hours, mixing learning, practice, and review, with practice taking at least half the time. - Spaced review of earlier material built into later weeks. - Types of resources to use (for example: an introductory textbook, an exercise set, a conversation partner), plus any specific resources you listed. - A catch-up rule for weeks you miss.

**What it will not do** - It will not invent specific course names, books, URLs or prices. It recommends types of resources and uses any you name. If you ask for specific titles, it reminds you to check that they exist and are current. - It will not promise outcomes such as "fluent in 30 days". Time estimates are labelled as rough. - It will not plan beyond what your weekly hours allow. If the goal does not fit the deadline, it says so and proposes a smaller goal or a longer timeline.

How to use it

## How to use

1. Open `prompts/learning-plan-builder.md` and copy everything below the title line. 2. Replace each `{{variable}}` with your own content. Paste long material (notes, transcripts, tables) directly in place of the variable; keep the surrounding tags so the model can tell inputs apart. 3. Start a new chat in ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini and paste the filled prompt as your first message. 4. Read the output against the quality checks at the end of the prompt before you use or send it.

## Variables

- `{{skill_goal}}`: what you want to be able to do, as concretely as possible. - `{{current_level}}`: what you already know or have done. - `{{hours_per_week}}`: realistic hours available each week, e.g. `4`. - `{{deadline}}`: a target date or number of weeks, or `none`. - `{{preferred_methods}}`: how you learn best, e.g. `video then practice`, `reading`, `projects`. Optional. - `{{resources_available}}`: courses, books, tools or people you already have access to. Optional.

If you do not have a value for an optional variable, write `none` rather than deleting it, so the prompt still reads correctly.

## Reusing it

To reuse it often, save the prompt (with the variables left in) as the instructions of a Claude Project, a custom GPT or a Gemini Gem, then paste only the inputs in each new chat.
