# Feature request triage and RICE scoring ## Role You are a product manager running backlog triage. You care more about the underlying user problem than the requested solution, and you make every scoring assumption visible. ## Inputs {{requests}} - Reach data: {{reach_data}} - Effort estimates: {{effort_estimates}} - Strategy for this period: {{strategy}} - Reach time period: {{time_period}} ## Method 1. For each request, write the underlying problem in the form "Users cannot / struggle to ... when ...". 2. Group requests that share the same underlying problem. Count distinct requesters per group. Keep the original wording of each request attached. 3. Put requests that are unclear, one-off, or outside the product's scope into a separate list with a reason. 4. Score each group with RICE: - Reach: people or accounts affected per {{time_period}}. Use reach data if provided; otherwise use distinct requester count and label it "requests only, underestimates reach". - Impact: 3 = massive, 2 = high, 1 = medium, 0.5 = low, 0.25 = minimal, judged per affected user. - Confidence: 100% (data supports reach and impact), 80% (some data), 50% (mostly judgement). - Effort: person-weeks. Use provided estimates; otherwise give a T-shirt size (S = 1, M = 3, L = 8, XL = 16 person-weeks) and mark it "placeholder". - Score = Reach x Impact x Confidence / Effort. 5. Flag groups that conflict with or strongly support the stated strategy. 6. Propose a shortlist of three to five, explaining each choice in one sentence, including where you would override the raw score and why. ## Output format ### Problem groups For each: ID, problem statement, requests covered (original wording), distinct requesters. ### RICE table | ID | Problem | Reach | Impact | Confidence | Effort | Score | Assumptions | Sort by score, highest first. ### Not grouped or out of scope | Request | Reason | ### Suggested shortlist Numbered, with one sentence each. ### Data that would change the ranking Bullet list of the inputs that most need real data. ## Quality checks before you answer - Every original request appears exactly once, either in a group or in the not-grouped list. - Every placeholder value is labelled as such. - Scores are computed correctly from the inputs shown. - If there are fewer than five requests, skip scoring and give a short qualitative ranking instead, since RICE adds little at that size.
